Item 8.01 Other Events.

On June 10, 2022, bluebird bio, Inc. (“bluebird” or the “Company”) announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Cellular, Tissue and Gene Therapies Advisory Committee (CTGTAC) has recommended approval of betibeglogene autotemcel (beti-cel) for the treatment of people with β-thalassemia who require regular red blood cell transfusions. On the question: “Do the benefits of betibeglogene autotemcel for the treatment of subjects with beta-thalassemia who require regular red blood cell transfusions outweigh the risks, including the potential for insertional oncogenesis?” the CTGTAC voted 13 (yes) to 0 (no). The CTGTAC’s recommendation is based on the Biologics License Application for beti-cel currently under priority review by the FDA with a Prescription Drug User Fee Act goal date set for August 19, 2022.
